Cheng Boost and Advanced Cheng Systems
Cheng Power Systems steam injection technology provides a simple,
fast and cost competitive means to improve gas turbine output and
heat rate.
The table clearly shows that the Cheng-Boost and ACS offer the
greatest amount of performance improvement at costs that are competitive
with the other methods on simple dollars per kW cost basis. What
is not evident from the table is the fact that the Cheng-Boost and
ACS systems are simple to operate and maintain, have little impact
on turbine maintenance costs and reliability, and preserve the simple-cycle
operating characteristics of the engines. Most importantly, in the
table the performance of all of the methods except for Cheng-Boost
and ACS is for optimal conditions and will often be less than indicated
in normal operations, while the performance of the Cheng-Boost and
ACS will often be better than indicated (in particular the performance
for most methods will degrade with increasing ambient temperature
and humidity, while the performance of Cheng-Boost and ACS will
improve under these conditions).

Source EPRI CPC 107 - December 2001 for all but Cheng Technologies. |
1. Add approximately $30 per kW if treated
water system is not already available.
2. Assumes that suitable steam source is available.
3. Assumes that HRSG is already installed, but includes
duct-burner installation.
4. Approximate cost including treated water system; current
market prices are targeted at $200 per kW or more.
5. Cheng data at 85o F, 60% R.H. and Standard Pressure burning
natural gas; performance improves at higher ambient temperatures.
6. Assumes "new" plant installation with used
and rebuilt combustion turbine; performance improvements
are as compared to underlying simple-cycle engine performance;
cost per kW is for total plant output and includes new HRSG
and balance of plant improvements.
