Power Magazine presents an article on the Cheng Cycle.
Steam injection was the best way to reduce NOx emissions from gas turbines until catalysts and ammonia injection burst on the scene a decade ago. The process was simple and reliable but proved unable to bring NOx down into single-digit ppm territory, as many localities require today. Recently, however, Cheng Power Systems has demonstrated that a few relatively simple combustor modifications can make steam injection work down to 5 ppm. Is the Cheng Cycle ready for a renaissance?
